A publishing agreement is the legal instrument by which a party, who has a copyright on a work, agrees to grant another party (editor) the right to copy and distribute the work in exchange for consideration. Our template provides the main elements of the legal and economic framework required in the context of publishing a work.

We recommend using this template to goven the relationship between a person who wishes to use all or part of the rights covered by copyright, and the owner of such copyright who, upon receiving a certain sum from that person as consideration, will grant them a right to use.

As a result of this agreement, the original owner of the copyright will no longer have exclusive ownership of that work. In other words, the owner will lose the exclusive control of the work that was transferred under the publishing agreement.
